Re: Ticks, warning

I see one of them quotes “without stress to the tick”

Aren’t they going to crush it underfoot?

We use the chicken method when in Turkey, very effective

Re: Ticks, warning

Ticks are nasty critters, I had tick bite fever twice, didn’t even realise I had been bitten & made malaria, hepatitis etc fade to insignificance.

I was horrified to see one of our young German Shepherds had ticks on her stomach. Having no fancy gadgets to remove them I was about to reach for a pair of pliers when I realised that they weren’t ticks - I almost lost a best friend!

I think that by 'stress' they mean that if you are too rough or violent when removing it you risk leaving the head and jaws in your skin, which could cause an infection.
They also warn against trying to pull it out holding on to the body because you could squeeze the stomach contents and toxins into your bloodstream or body and cause infection.

These are standard health warnings when removing any type of sucking/biting insects and ticks.

We read this on the internet and tried it, maybe their hold was loosened but they did not fall off.

Re: Ticks, warning

We also used to use Vaseline.
A good blob of Vaseline on the tick, the tick suffocates and shrinks inside 2 or 3 minutes and you can then easilly remove it by hand with a paper tissue.

Re: Ticks, warning

Nothing worse than Lymes disease from ticks. Is this over abundance of ticks just in Turkey or is it everywhere at the moment.
One of the old fashioned tricks to remove them was to singe them with a cigarette. Some of us are old enough to remember this one. In later years we were encouraged to use the stainless steel gadget which was mentioned earlier.

Re: Ticks, warning

Thanks for your help chaps, TLF at its best. I ordered several 'lassos' and several TOM'O TOM tick twisters from purple turtle. We will share with Turkish friends and neighbours. They will deliver to Turkey directly.
