Turkey by Car

I am thinking of travelling by car to Turkey.

My Route will take me through Albania, Bosnia and MonteNegro as I taking the Greek Route.

UK car Insurance doe NOT cover these countries.

Can you buy local Car insurance at theses borders??? Are any of them dangerous to drive through. Whats been your experience?

yes you can. Cannot speak for Albania but the other 2 are not dangerous. Those countries looking to access the EU are having to up their game so I would be more bothered about the quality of the roads than anything else.

Re: Turkey by Car

None of them are dangerous haven driven in all 3 several times and lived in Albania for a time.
Cant help with insurance issue from the UK but I would guess that a Green card should cover it.
Beautiful country side through MN and Albania.

Re: Turkey by Car

I did this last year except I drove through Croatia rather than Bosnia. I paid for insurance at the border for MN (15 Euro for 15 days) and Albania (49 Euro for 3 weeks). Pretty sure insurance was only 3rd party cover. My memory is not what it used to be.

As Sleepy said no problem at all driving through both countries except speed limits are on the low side. Scenery through all the Balkan countries was quite breathtaking.

We really enjoyed the adventure and will definitely be doing it again next year.

Re: Turkey by Car

There are four main types of insurance available in Turkey, plus some additional extra cover that you may add on to a standard policy.

How about driving the reverse way from Turkey to the UK in a Turkish registered car ?

I cannot find any info on this on the net or on here unless anyone can show otherwise ?

Re: Turkey by Car

I did it in 1988, imported the car into England and put it on UK plates, but I guess you are looking for more up-to-date info.
