Great Dishes of the World: Turkey's Imam bayildi

The versatile aubergine is the backbone of an ancient Turkish dish so delicious that its name translates as 'the priest has fainted'

The Americans call it eggplant. The English, aubergine, and in India, where the fruit is thought to have originated, it is known as the brinjal.

I love both the veggie version and the meaty version, we grew some aubergine here in the uk last year, each plant only provided 1 large and a couple of smaller fruits, but they were extremely tasty.
