Do Turks eat Goat?

Loads of other countries have goat on their menu. The hottest Indian dish I ever had was a goat curry.

Given the numbers of goats in Turkey are they used in cooking?

My understanding is that there are as many goats and sheep combined as there are people in Turkey. Don't think they are pets; goat cheese, milk etc.

Re: Do Turks eat Goat?

goat are eaten. but some of us (but not me!)don't prefer to eat goat or sheep because of their taste of meat. you know it smells different, it's fatty etc.

But cheese or milk to use for making yogurt are preferred.

I think you can't find goat in any restaurant's menu. But in the small villages you can find it in butcher or from villagers.

Re: Do Turks eat Goat?

Yes, Turks eat goat. Sometimes they are sacrificed at Kurban Bayram. I don't like the taste to be honest.

Thanks for the reply. Goats cheese is lovely, I was just curious about any dishes made with goat meat.

Re: Do Turks eat Goat?

We have bought goat from Kipa but have not seen it for ages. Goat meat if cooked correctly is delicious. I think most of it needs to be slow cooked. Goat curry is supposed to be really good.
