Asparagus ?

I have been asked by my "mate", if they grow and sell asparagus in Turkey, cant say I have ever seen it in the Markets, but I'm sure Guvercinlik market probably has an asparagus stall, eh Steve ? !
Its one of my favourite veggies

Re: Asparagus ?

Love this veg too, it's late here in the UK this year, and has too short a season to wait too long, for the British variety imho is the tastiest. Love it lightly steamed, then finish off with a huge know of butter, deicious.

We couldn't find the British variety this weekend, and ended up with a Peruvian, that's quite tasty, but a little more stringy, I love it steamed as you say, but also love it BBQd

Re: Asparagus ?

Love it! My favorite way is to toss with olive oil, salt and pepper, cook on a very hot grill pan or BBQ for a couple of minutes, and sprinkle with basalmic vinegar- YUMMY

cooked it loads of times on the BBQ as you describe, but not tried it with the balsamic yet, but as soon as the weather is warm enough I will try that one

Re: Asparagus ?

I've never seen the full sized asparagus, but here they sell what we call sprue (spelling??) in the UK - very, very thin stalks. My understanding is that it grows wild, rather than being cultivated, and it has a very short season. The first time I tried it I asked the lady selling it how she cooked it - sauté finely chopped onion and asparagus in olive oil (I add a little butter) and then add beaten eggs and scramble until just set. Yum, yum!!!!! Love it!!!!

We like it tossed in Olive Oil and crushed garlic too, I must try the scrambled recipe for my husband, it is a tasty little veg.
