require help with translations

Until I get some basic learning I am hoping someone can do some simple translations for me to help around my home (neighbours are mostly Turkish)

I need a gas bottle. How much does it cost?
…………………………………..
The water is not working, I need help.
…………………………………..
I have friends staying here on xxxxxxx
…………………………………..
My sons will be here on xxxxxxxx
………………………………….
How much to clean and tidy the house and do the laundry after guests leave?
………………………………….
We come back here on xxxxxxxx
………………………………….
I need some help with xxxxxxxx
…………………………………

thanks
Juco

I know a lot of then do but the one place they dont is where I have my place and the security man speaks zero English and neither to the neighbours, It took me 3 hours and 3 nationalities to go from english to german to french and then to turkish just to get my water turned on by the security man. I am better prepared for my next visit but I need to be sure Mr security knows what I mean. I can go to the shops and buy whatever no problem.
Its around the house thats the problem.

Re: require help with translations

Its the same for us Juco. We have bought on a Turkish Site and the security guy and his wife who cleans our place for us, don't speak any English at all. I have copied what Pebble has kindly written for us. People shouldn't presume that everyone can speak English as they don't and nor should they, we should be trying to speak Turkish and although I do, it is soooooooooo bad that the lady who cleans for us bursts out laughing when I do

Re: require help with translations

Gail................

What I am doing is putting the translations on to my laptop (spreadsheet) which I will take out with me next visit, I will between now and then add to the list and I am hoping I can just boot up the laptop and go to the relevent `words` when I get stuck.
I know I should learn the language but I have a very poor retention rate and have always been like that even at school....now 50 years on !
Yet show me something mechanical just once and I will remember it. Some people have an apptitude for languages and I envy them but alas I am not one of them, I also envy people with musical skills something I would love to do but cant string 2 notes together ....Oh how the grass is always greener!

Re: require help with translations

Gail, Now I am putting my memory to the test here but if I think back were you not both trying to move our there about this time , I seem to recall a post a year or so back and you were just waiting on the children being old enough. Either that or I have just proved how bad my memory really is!
