Heres a thread about some of those little words that can be confusing. How and where to use them..and most importantly ..how to say them.
Last week we were having a meal up in the mountains..super place..and one of the girls asked for weak tea…but the way she said it was indistinct.
She said çokkaçık..she ran the two words together..and the old man thought ..as i did..that she said çok küçük.. very small.
So since all the tea cups are small he just brought her a normal cup of çay at which she became very annoyed!!. Look at this she said..its normal tea and i asked for weak. İ said i dont think he understood you ..as i too thought she had asked for a small one.. and i think she was a little miffed at me too as she said well they understand me in town where i always go!.
İf she had made a distinction between the two little words it would have been ok..she should have said çok ..açık and not ran the two together…as when we speak Turkish many of us also speak it with the accents of wherever we come from…hence the funny looks we sometimes get and we know we haven't been understood.

Anyway enough ramble on to those all important little words.
Çok-Fazla-daha- az- hep-etc etc..

Lets start with the ubiquitous (her yerde olan..every place being)) ÇOK
Çok means much a lot of etc....as im sure you know
Çoktan beri…çok..dan..beri…. a long time since (Dan/Tan mutation)
Çok açık çay ..very weak tea.
Çok şükür..very grateful
Çok iyi değil..not much good.
Değil takes the personal pronouns….say it ..day-eel
Çok iyi deği İM..im not feeling too good
Çok ayıp..very disgraceful

Fazla means.. too much
Sooo
Çok fazla ..means.. much too much.
Daha also means more….(confusing innit?)
Daha fazla…much more.(as in the school report)…daha fazla gayret..much more effort.
Daha also means again
Bir daha..once more.
Daha iyi..better….daha kötü ..worse

Then we have AZ..which means less
Çok az..very little….az çok more or less.
Az önce..just now..
Önce means before..az önce..a little before
Az sonra..a little later
Az pişmiş… if you want something lightly cooked.
Pişmiş.peeshmeesh..nice word to say…dont get carried away with the eeee ‘s though will you?

Hep means all..and it can take endings such as hepimiz..all of us..hepiniz all of you..hepsi..all of it
Hepimiz beraber..all of us together

Yine and gene are two words that are used to say again or still
As Yusuf will say when i nag
Yine başlıyorsun…..you are starting again...yee neh bash-luh -yor-sun

İm sure you hear ‘yani’ all the time in conversations and when people are discussing things..its what i would call a filler word..we use them
İ mean to say..see…you know..you see etc.. yani is used in the same way.

Tamam you will no doubt be familiar with..its used to say ok..its ready..its done all right etc…peki is also used to say ok.

Olmaz can be used for ..no..not possible..no way
İmkansız also means not possible
Kesinlikle you will hear a lot..it means definitely/certainly
Kesinlikle mümkün değil..its certainly not possible
Mümkün ..moom koon. Possible
Mümkün mü? İs it possible.

Bu kader tamam mı? İs this much ok..
İf you can think of more for this list tell me and lets do them together.

Hi Shirleyanntr, great i will study this and try to improve and understand my Turkish, as we will shortly be returning to our beloved Turkey i was wondering if you could help me with a phrase i would like to say to our Turkish friends and neighbours, restaurant workers and shop assistants that we got to know so well while we were there for 5 months.

I would like to learn to say (so nice to see you again), could you please help me with this?

I think it is correct but not sure of the spelling of "verb to see" I have just typed phonetically.

seni bir daha gördüğüme çok sevimdim..my seeing you once again is charming

Tekrar görüşmek çok güzeldir...(adding on DİR means it is)
tek rarr gur oosh mek chock goozel deer
again seeing each other is very lovely
i think i would use the last one

Thanks Shirley, great revision as always! Sezayi's brother always has açık çay and Dad always has karanlık çay. When I first heard it it struck me that 'light' and 'dark' are a more accurate description than 'weak' or 'strong' as we English use.

spell it gördüğüme..in grammar this is using the personal participle DİK
gör-dük + personal pronouns..as you can see its all harmony related.
