contract law in Turkey ( not sale of property)

I am very clear what constitutes a contract in the UK. I assumed the same general principles applied in Turkey . However a recent consultation with a lawyer in Turkey led to him stating that unless a contract is in writing then it is not enforceable in Turkish courts. I have serious doubts re the accuracy of this !! Certainly it makes it easier to enforce if a contract is in writing but I would have thought that the same simple principles of offer , acceptance , consideration and behaviour ( following offer and acceptance) would apply in Turkish courts as they do in most leading countries in the world. If there are any legal beagles on this forum who could shed some light on this issue then I would appreciate contact from them.

Re: contract law in Turkey ( not sale of property)

I think you will find that a lot of countries with codified law, such as Turkey, require contracts to be in writing. England and Wales do not have codified law however a contract for the sale of land or related to land eg house purchase has to be in writing to be valid.
