Identity

Hello. My understanding is that anyone with a blue book for residency must carry it at all times. I have been told that all you need to carry is a colour, laminated, copy of passport. Is that correct? Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Identity

You need to carry ID. In some cases it could be your passport/residence permit/UK driving licence etc.

Re: Identity

I thought I had to have my passport and residence permit in my possession at all times. I have been stopped numerous times at routine traffic stops and they have sometimes asked for my passport, more commonly only for the auto registration and my driver's license. I was once stopped by a Jandarma and I did not have my passport at that time and he was quite ready to take me in but for The Missus (who is Turkish) intervening and assuring the young man that I had a passport and that she would never allow me to go out of the house without one again. He demurred...

"All visitors must hold a passport valid for 6 months beyond the period of intended stay and with two blank pages. An identity document is accepted in lieu of a passport for citizens of Belgium, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Northern Cyprus, Portugal, Spain, and Switzerland..."

Re: Identity

We always carry our Residency Permits and I usually have a laminated copy of my passport too. We have been asked for passports on several occasions but if we haven't got them the Residency Permit will usually suffice.

With the heightened security and increased number of vehicle checks it's probably sensible to carry both rather than relying on being let off by either the Polis or Jandarma.

Re: Identity

If you read the instructions/notes that are issued with the residence card you will see that you are required to carry your passport along with your residence permit. It's also worth reading the English copy of the agreement you sign when you apply for a new or renewal permit, you agree to abide by the rules and if you don't you don't have a leg to stand on when they revoke your permit or fine you.
