Re: Driving Licence Turkey

I do find that some Turks behaviour is down to arrogance, especially double parking, or just stopping in the middle of the road etc.

we were driving to the kipa a couple of months ago ,a van cut me out then pulled out again .Two seconds later he stopped dead in the road and a young man rammed into his back doors .I went passed as it happened and he was on his phone laughing at a video. And this was on the D400.

Re: Driving Licence Turkey

I think the problem is that the US did not sign up to the international agreement. It is very difficult for US citizens.

Who knows? I'm not a psychiatrist nor a mind reader.

ALL drivers, foreign or Turkish take the same test. No such thing as a separate test for yabancilar...

Not wanting to escalate to US bashing or anything, it just came out of the blue and I would have thought the US driving requirements would be just as strict, and conforming to an acceptable standard to Turkey.
The US did not sign the Convention on Road Traffic, several other countries did not also, that is why they cannot exchange licenses as can UK and Schengen and other residents.

There is NO federal driving license requirement in the United States, every one of the 50 states and Puerto Rico have their own requirements and laws concerning taking and passing a driving test and getting a license. That includes speed limits as well.

An Indian friend of mine said that Delhi was hell and that Istanbul was easy to get around.

Re: Driving Licence Turkey

With the border ban in place and therefore nipping out then back to Turkey not allowed many may be driving illegally in Turkey and in case of accident may have insurance problems.

Norman, you make a good comment, after all it would be terrible if there were people in Turkey driving illegally without wearing their seat belts, or with their tail lights bonkered and broken, or having flashing red lights on the front of their cars, or with broken exhaust systems, or excessively loud sound systems liable to be heard in the next province, or no driving licences.

Yes a terrible state of affairs indeed...

Re: Driving Licence Turkey

The police seem very good about the licensing but the insurance is different matter.
