Turkish Passport Application Query

Hi everyone
My father (deceased)was a Turkish Cypriot who came to the UK 56 years ago.I understand I can apply for a Turkish Passport which is something I want to do as I intend to buy a property there.
Firstly I would like to know if this is the case and how to go about applying, also is it a requirement to be fluent in the language in my case.
Thanks in advance.

Turkish consulate London may be able to give you an answer if no body here chips in.

Sorry I don't know the answer either but if you do manage to get one, be prepared to be conscripted into the armed forces.

Re: Turkish Passport Application Query

Hi ...did your father have Turkish nationality, if so you will get the same. My daughter applied when she was 30 & didn't have to speak any Turkish, this was thru Turkish consulate in London. Her baba, my husband is Turkish.

I ask of your fathers nationality, as we have a friend, Turkish Cypriot, who came to the uk 1965, but he held a uk passport, never did get Turkish nationality. He has to buy a visa each time he travels to Turkey.

Re: Turkish Passport Application Query

I assume he must of had Cypriot citizenship when he was born but he used a British passport when we traveled to Northern Cyprus so I don't really know.
I think the best thing to do is to contact the Turkish Consulate in londoon.
Thanks

Re: Turkish Passport Application Query

Being Turkish Cypriot does not entitle you to Turkish citizenship, or at least it didn't a couple of years ago. My hubby's mother and father were Cypriot, although like your father had been in the UK for years. We were told that even if we got the kimliks through Northern Cyprus we would still need to apply as foreigners in Turkey, this was from the Turkish Embassy.
