Re: Goodbye Cappadocia, goodbye Turkey!

I hope it turns out to be what you want it to be.

You now how a forum works so why don't you start your own once you settle down, there must be plenty of Brits there who left Turkey looking for utopia.

Re: Goodbye Cappadocia, goodbye Turkey!

Thank you all for your kind words.

KK - If I had wanted to find Brits looking for utopia, I would have stayed in the UK! We chose the Republic of Turkey partly because it is a EU country and that makes work, residence permits, pensions and driving licences so much easier but I am well aware that there is no country which is perfect. We have business contacts and a good network of friends here which always makes things easier when you start off somewhere new but everything can always go bottoms up despite all the precautions you take. And if doesn't work, we'll move on, we're not too old for that yet. And I'm not retired yet, no time to set up a forum!!

Charlotte, I am surprised that you are surprised. We have always been aware and taken an interest in the political goings-on but up until now none of this really has affected us or our friends in Cappadocia directly which has always been a quiet rural backwater. Yes civil liberties and freedom of the press have quietly and ineluctably been eroded but selfishly you only really sit up and take notice when your friends are in prison and your neighbours are being arrested and you are directly threatened. But good to know that all is going well for you and the girls in England.

Bal, I still take an interest in what is happening in Turkey and even more so now that I don't have to hide to say what I think, or use codewords or keep looking over my shoulder. So I might even be able to post more. Please stay safe yourself, though.

We have met people who do have bitterness and prejudice towards Turks and the Occupied Territories. There are bigots everywhere, even on TLF! So we just choose our friends carefully and separate the wheat from the chaff. We are lucky enough to have intelligent and open-minded Cypriot friends but obviously not everyone is as tolerant.

Anyway good friends and good memories in Turkey and hopefully another set of good memories to be created here on this sunny island.

Can't remember exactly what is was but you made me choke on on my morning cuppa with laughter at one of of your posts. Thank you for that.
Also thank you for bringing a sense of tolerance to the forum. For that you will be sorely missed by me.
As one door closes and all that ...... Sometimes you have to give it a big push!

Please come back and tell us your stories.
Will miss you.

Glad i made you choke but I'll be back. If only to remind Kibris that he is an imigrant, not an expat!
