40,000 denounced to police as Gülenists in Ankara

"There are fathers who denounce their sons, wives who denounce their husbands, citizens who denounce their neighbors."
"For example, some who hate each other, or who simply disagree on things, or those who want to replace others in their positions, may denounce their rivals with the benefit of anonymity. Unjust treatment is the result"

40,000 denounced to police as Gülenists in Ankara - CRIME

One of the reasons we decided to leave Turkey!

As one of our farmer neighbours said, before, if you had a problem with a neighbour, you would poison his sheep or shoot his sheepdog. Now all you need to do is pick up the phone. And the hotline is free!

Our muhtar told everyone all the muhtars are getting bonuses for every person they denounce as terrorists. Not sure that this is true (although the muhtars did all receive a letter from RTE pre-coup, encouraging them to actively denounce any black sheep of the flock) but his next ploy was to insinuate you could make sure you were not on the list if you "give me little bit money".

Presumably these practices and nightly arrests bundling people into unmarked cars are not rife in the coastal resorts but in the Anatolian heartland, this is now daily life.
