Money Vs FREE and if and when coincides with a break/holiday in the Uk then that is then a bonus.

Fairy nuff but surely most expats have SGK so money isn't such a consideration when choosing between 1st class treatment and a somewhat iffy NHS.

Think you will be surprised what some people will do to save money and don't forget SGK is not compulsory for the elderly or should I say the 'Tight' ones

A link to the article you're referring to would be helpful, Stuart.

My father (he had an emergency quadruple heart bypass in Turkey - saved his life) had an xray in Turkey for a hip problem. They told him in the future he'd need a hip replacement as there is serious wear. However, since returning to the UK 3 years ago he's had physiotherapy but no tests or xrays as the NHS doctor has diagnosed him with a 'trapped nerve'.
He can't find his xray from Turkey to get a second opinion.

The financial cost to the NHS from prescribing physio is probably more than the cost of an xray. But then again if the xray showed he needs a new hip (and he's retired) who would have to pay for that? I guess they're trying to bide their time.

Thank you for your advice Charlotte but I am a stubborn bugger and determined to beat the system no matter how much it is stacked against me.

The other reason that I am holding on is because should I need further investigation then I will be insisting on the MRI route rather than the traditional and less reliable biopsy route. I am not sure if this is available in Turkey.

Michael,

I am sure you are aware of the NHS max waiting times by now but for the benefit of those who are not

NHS waiting times in England - NHS Choices

Im a fully paid up member of the NHS and also have private health care, I have had great experiences and terrible experiences with both, the main difference is the private room with Sky TV and better food choices in the private hospital, I found little in it with the overall medical experience.
