Sgk 2017

last week I was speaking to a friend in Bodrum, we were discussing medical insurance and residency (they have just renewed theirs). Yesterday she contacted us having read something on another Forum posted by en expat who was refused treatment by SGK as 'they have a new directive not to treat 'chronic conditions' for foreigners.
I have a feeling that this came through the Doc Marten's facebook group. I do not have a facebook account and my missus is awol.
Has anyone else heard about this?

I saw that thread and it descended into a chaotic thread in an almost TLF fashion, Martin closed the thread for that reason including the above for some clarity.

Re: Sgk 2017

These look like a standard set of exclusion clauses for private healthcare contracts. If SGK is looking at opening up more to foreigners they will have to set some guidelines or they will be in the same situation as the NHS with health tourism.

Re: Sgk 2017

Surely Turkey is only interested in attracting 5-star accommodation private services for those who can afford it it not the run-of-the-mill OAP who is more of a drain on the services that what he/she puts in?

Quote:
The Turkish government is starting the “second phase in its transformation of the health sector” with a view to attracting patients from abroad, according to Health Minister Recep Akdağ.

The country will attract foreign patients with new city hospitals, designed to attract not only through the quality of their healthcare but also through “five-star hotel” accommodation services, combining affordable but high-quality healthcare with high-quality accommodation services, Akdağ told the Hürriyet Daily News.

Re: Sgk 2017

The SGK has always had a clause where it does not cover pre existing chronic illnesses and also does not cover certain procedures in certain private hospitals. Certain expensive blood tests in private hospitals have also had to be paid for, as have some expensive injections.
Anyone who has read the facebook post will see that the patient concerned had 2 hip replacements within 6 months. The sgk paid for one but did not pay for the 2nd. The patient confirmed that the surgeon had gained sgk approval for the 1st and gone ahead with the 2nd 6 months later without getting approval first.
Before everybody presses the panic button there is nothing new here. It simply shows the importance when going to private hospitals to clarify BEFORE operations and procedures that they are approved by the sgk and what your portion of the bill will be.
It is also worth noting that the list of chronic illnesses not covered (which I have posted here numerous time) is not as vast as most private insurers and is mainly centred around cancer related conditions. People with many cardiovascular issues and complaints rejected by private insurers are not on the list of the SGK chronic illnesses.
As always, better to check first.
