You can start the application on your next visit and shouldn't be too long to get the result depending on which area you are applying from.

Yes, but you have to have lived in Turkey for 8 years on continuous residence permits before you can apply for a LTRP. OF

Yes agreed, maybe the OP was thinking more of a STRP (2 year permit)

Just re-read the posts and actually there was no mention of the op wanting a LTRP only a RP, So unassumingly he means a STRP as I thought in my previous post.

Re: Residence permit

If I want to live in Turkey permanently . . . . .original quote from OP

first you need to get short term residency, then after 8 years you can apply for a long term residency.
This is not the same as applying for citizenship where different rules apply.
There's a lot of really good advice on the Forum so read everything carefully and take your time before you make any irrevocable decisions.
Good luck and enjoy!

Re: Residence permit

I have lived in Side, Turkey for 12 years and have had a residency permit but now I prefer to have 3 months in Side, 3 months in UK, 3 months in Side, 3 months in UK. That way you can just come in on an E-Visa which is much much cheaper and much easier. It is a REAL HASSLE getting the RP. I would not advise selling up in UK but keep your place there and do the 3 month thing as we do. We are in Turkey for March, April, May and then again September, October, November which is great.

Which is where and how the STRP now comes into it's own because of no restrictions on the 90 day limit, and when you consider the overall cost for 2 years against the cost of 4or5 eVisa's then it's not going to come out much dearer.

I've not found the new system a hassle in fact its much better than the old Blue Card system and the staff are much more helpful than the polis used to be. I accept that I have not had any hiccups with the on line form.

Re: Residence permit

And don't forget (if found out) it is against the law to have a 3rd party complete the form for you. 'So never admit if asked that someone else completed the form'

I found the most confusing part was that of ones address code which apparently can also be found on ones DASK paperwork.
Also the terminology of '4 x BIOMETRIC PHOTOS' when all they mean are 4 normal passport type pictures'

Re: Residence permit

Wish I could afford to do that and I'm currently still working so only get 5 weeks holiday per year. If I did move would have to sell up to fund my retirement
