Thanks oldfogy my next trip is in June for 2 weeks holiday however I was under the impression you can't apply for residency until I am living there?

You Don't have to be living there as such, you can still apply even if staying at a hotel but then it could be slightly complicated with proving where you would be staying. Other than that you can apply the day after you set foot in Turkey. Still not sure how long the process takes in Didim and not forgetting different areas will have different time-scales. But even that is not really a problem Because you can still either stay on after your evisa expires or/and even leave the country for up-to 15days whilst waiting for the RP process to be completed

The main reason I'm applying for mine is that i usually end up having more than 1 evisa a year so in the long run cost wise it may even out but then I won't be limited with the 90/180 rule.

EDIT:
Actually you do not need to wait to apply just that you can't apply more than 3 months before requesting the interview, so you could apply 'whenever' so as to hopefully get your interview during your next trip.

EDIT 2:
Ok got a answer to my original question of roughly how long is it taking to get a STRP in Didim and the answer was 62 days.
