Smile importing personal furniture from UK

Hi everyone I wanted to ask about bringing our furniture from UK to Antalya. We have finally bought the house and now are planning on bringing most of our furniture to Turkey, we have the removal company and the quotes but they are not sure about the taxes and charges when the items arrive here. Also someone mentioned about taxes for electrical goods.
I will be most grateful if anyone can advice me. Thank you

Hi Sabrina,

Mixed feelings on this issue will be posted on here I reckon. I've heard/seen/read most scenario. To be perfectly honest, I wouldn't bring any furniture or large electrical goods. Cost, damage & possible hassle at customs/taxes. Its so hit & miss with goods coming in..........but I wish you the good life in Turkey.

Re: importing personal furniture from UK

Sell the lot in UK and buy new out here. The electricals will be a problem as the power voltage supply may be slightly different which would invalidate any guarantees.

Re: importing personal furniture from UK

You'd be as well to employ a broker in Turkey to clear you cargo through customs, we used one to take a container from Turkey to the UK and he sorted out all of the paperwork etc for us.

The voltages are the same and will work without problem, Turkey may be outside of any Guarantee zone for UK bought electrical goods.

Re: importing personal furniture from UK

We were going to get a container for our furniture from North Cyprus to Turkey, but we had so many companies saying they can get it there, but we may not get it out of customs, I'm not sure if that was because of where it was coming from. In the end we did a few trips over with excess luggage, bringing personal items. If you join the local Facebook selling sites you will find lots of people selling nearly new household items, because they are moving or leaving the country. xx

Re: importing personal furniture from UK

As a general rule transport shipping import taxes etc make it more sensible and convenient to sell what you can then buy your new stuff in Turkey
