Any advice welcome

Hi, we are looking to buy a property in Turkey firstly for holidays and then retirement in a couple of years.. we love Side and our daughter and her partner love Belek and Antalya.. looking for advice on areas between Antalya and Side to start the house hunt!!! We want something detached with a private pool (or space to build one) and little bit of garden at least, and a view of some description (sea,mountains,fields.. just not a road or housing estate), close to some local shops at least. Daughter and son in law want to be within a twenty/thirty minute drive of a golf course... any advise greatly appreciated. Don't want to ask agents yet as we know we'll get inundated with places!!! Many thanks, Sue

Re: Any advice welcome

Hi Sue, welcome to the Forum. I am sure that others, who know the area better than I will soon be on to offer advice. I would just add that you consider renting first, so that you can get a feel for the areas that you are considering buying in, and will get to understand the values of properties here. Many people jump in too fast and spend more than they need for a place that is not good value for money.

Re: Any advice welcome

Welcome to the forum from me too. Yes, definitely rent first so as you get to know which area you prefer.... although I don't know that area well enough to help you there. But I would say be close to a working town, not somewhere that pretty much closes down in winter, otherwise you will feel quite remote, unless you want remote. Don't jump in too quickly to buy, you may see something that you think is a bargain, compared to UK prices... but it may not be compared to Turkey prices. Good luck. Xx

VILLASUNDAY will become famous soon enough
Re: Any advice welcome

I too would recommend rent before you buy or at least stay in a cheap hotel for a month or two to get to know the areas & prices better before buying.
The estate agents selling to the locals rather than foreigners will have better priced properties, although maybe not what you are looking for.
Buying is the easy bit, trying to sell again is a totally different story.
Also, look for something which is easy to maintain. Painting the outside our 3 storey villa & all the balcony railings is expensive & needs doing a lot more often than in the UK. Also many Turkish properties don't have much or any insulation for the winter & the government are going to be bringing in regulations about insulation which could in the future have a big impact on being able to sell the property.

Re: Any advice welcome

Thank you all for the advice, we intend making a few visits to areas that people recommend and then more time in the place we settle on, and at different times of the year, before we buy anything.. Quite exciting but also quite daunting
