Exclamation Tourists Warned Of Turkey Terror Attack

The governments of Australia and New Zealand have warned of a "strong likelihood" of terror attacks aimed at tourists visiting Turkey.
Thousands of visitors from both countries are expected to arrive at the Gallipoli Peninsula for war commemoration services on Anzac Day, April 25.

An Anzac day service in TurkeyThe date marks the day in 1915 when a British-led force, including Australian and NZ troops, stormed ashore and were met by a powerful Turkish army.

It was named Anzac day as it marked the first major military action carried by the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps in World War I.

Thousands of people, many of them young, converge on the area at this time each year to attend commemoration services organized by Turkish, NZ and Australian authorities.

"There is a strong likelihood of ... terrorist activity in Istanbul, Ankara, in other major centres, and in tourist areas in Turkey," the NZ Foreign Ministry travel advisory warned.

"Further attacks could well occur throughout Turkey."
