Re: New Bosphorus Tunnel

Critics of Prime Minister Erdogan have seen the tunnel as one of his grandiose construction projects for the city where he used to be mayor.

Detractors of his proposals, including a third airport, a parallel canal, a third bridge over the Bosphorus and a second tunnel, for cars, south of Marmaray, say they illustrate Mr Erdogan's "pharaonic" ambitions.

Re: New Bosphorus Tunnel

As a Istanbulite I would like to give thanks to the late BULENT ECEVIT the CHP prime minister for awarding the first consultancy on the project in 2001 and awarding the first contract in 2002 . The MARMARAY should give some help to the harassed commuters

Re: New Bosphorus Tunnel

Hold on there....... what about Sultan Abdulmejid who proposed the idea of a tunnel about a century and a half ago. One of his successors, Abdulhamid, had architects submit proposals in 1891.

Do Istanbul residents consider it a good idea?

Re: New Bosphorus Tunnel

Certainly, a couple we know from that city also agree that the new tunnel is a great idea.

Just in time for the elections next year, as well.
