Poverty Line: 2,112TL

From Dailysabah:
Extracts:

"The poverty line for a single worker, the amount he/she should earn monthly in order to pay rent and meet basic needs, increased by 0.13 percent in July compared to June, setting at TL 2,112 ($760) according to data the Turkish Public Workers' Labor Union (Kamu-Sen) released on Sunday. The hunger threshold, on the other hand, for a single worker was set at TL 1,630.23.

Kamu-Sen has also released the relevant figures for a family of four. Accordingly, the poverty line for a household of four was set at TL 4,284.66 ($1,541), whereas the minimum level of average monthly food expenditures and accommodation expenses was calculated as TL 1,630.23 as of July. In order for a family of four to develop a healthy diet, they have to spend at least TL 34.26 ($12.51) on their daily food consumption, reported Kamu-Sen. "

"The minimum wage for a single worker in Turkey without a family is TL 949.07, whereas the lowest civil servant salary stands at TL 2,114, and the highest at TL 8,090."

Full: Poverty line reaches TL 2,112 ($760) for single worker in July - Daily Sabah

I reckon a lot of the wealthy expats could contribute more to the Turkish economy.

Very condescending comments...most Turks work extremely hard for what they get.

Re: Poverty Line: 2,112TL

These figures are not very meaningful as the costs of living vary hugely in different areas of Turkey. many people supplement their pensions with businesses like bakkal etc, others own their own house and grow much of their food in summer/go fishing and sell the fish. Life is a struggle but Turks work hard and are very adaptable and ingenious.

Re: Poverty Line: 2,112TL

I genuinely just can't believe these figures, I'm shocked!
I am a single mum living here with my 5 year old, second baby coming in October.
I live on between 1.200 and 1,500 lira per month VERY comfortably!
We have a huge detached three bedroom house (rented) a very nice little car. We eat perfectly well and very healthily and I pay a couple of hundred lira every month for my medical supplies.
Plus we have three large dogs and six cats which are not cheap to keep, that's probably another couple of hundred lira per month thinking about it.

So technically my child and I live like kings for less than the hunger line income in an expensive touristic hotspot!
If I moved literally a few miles away my rent costs would halve and we could easily live on under 1,000 Lira per month!

I'm a bit confused as to how they work this stuff out!
