Want to donate your dog to the Police Department?

If anyone involved with dog rescue have any dogs that meet the requirements below it would be a good way to get them rehomed.

Want to donate your dog to the Police Department Narcotics Bureau is searching for families who want to donate their dogs to be trained for various duties, according to a report by daily Milliyet. The department said donated dogs need to be up to 3 years old. The breed of the dog needs to be one of the following: German, Belgian or Dutch sheep dogs, Golden Retriever or Labrador Retriever. The dogs also need to be playful, healthy, friendly and social.

The heading of the announcement is: Do you want your dog to become a police dog?

Rather than purchase such breeds from overseas, the police department is trying to satisfy its special trained K9 needs from local sources. Donated dogs go through certain tests before the successful ones are trained at the special K9 center in Gölbaşı, Ankara. It is believed, the announcement directly targets those families who have no idea what to do with newly born puppies.

Trained dogs will be used at various police bureaus and by the fire department.

It does not say what the salary is, nor if SGK is included. I hope is nothing to sniff at.

Re: Want to donate your dog to the Police Department?

Many years ago my brother donated his Alsatian to the Army Bomb Disposal Unit. He passed all the tests including the one to see if he would be spooked by loud noises; the officer came up behind him with a biscuit tin which had a house brick inside; he smashed the tin to the ground with a real crash (bullets and bombs were too expensive to waste on these tests): the dog did not blink = passed and accepted into the Army.

They all want to be loved but the average Street-Dog does not even meet the 1st requirement.
The Police force here are only looking for GSD's, Retrievers or Labradors. Not sure about Altinkum but as lovely as our Street-Dogs are around Side, I'm fairly certain that I've never seen any of those breeds out alone on the street.

He was better natured than many squaddies. He had to "go" after the soon to be wife made him choose; personally I would have kept the dog.
