Also unstamped ballot papers are allowed to be counted and government officials only will oversee the count.

Re: Elections in August 2018?

EU are flexing their muscles on this situation.... It's overtime the UN stepped in......

Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım on April 24 blasted a call by the Monitoring Committee of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) for the postponement of Turkey’s upcoming early elections on June 24.
“The Parliamentary Assembly should mind its own business. It is not up them to say who will hold elections and when. Turkey has held hundreds of elections with turnouts not below 85 percent,” Yıldırım told reporters in Madrid during a joint press conference with Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy.

PACE on April 24 called on Turkey to “postpone” the June 24 snap elections, citing the ongoing state of emergency in the country.

“On the same day the elections were announced, the [Turkish] parliament approved the 7th extension of the state of emergency put in place after the failed July 2016 coup. Echoing the Venice Commission concerns, the committee reiterates that it is impossible to hold genuinely democratic elections under the state of emergency and ongoing security operations in southeast Turkey,” the committee said in a meeting in Strasbourg.

One of the main factors compromising the legitimacy of the elections is the space for democratic debate being “narrowed” down with the state of emergency, the committee stated."

PACE calls on Turkey to ?postpone? June 24 snap elections

Another interesting development!

"Former President Abdullah Gül held a meeting with Turkey’s former prime and foreign minister Ahmet Davutoğlu in Ankara on April 23, daily Habertürk has reported.

The meeting, held 61 days before the rescheduled elections set for June 24, reportedly lasted for an hour.
The two man have been in regular contact since leaving their official posts in the government, sources said, but the timing of the April 23 meeting has drawn attention ahead of the snap election due to take place on June 24.

Felicity Party (SP) leader Temel Karamollaoğlu is also set to meet main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and İYİ (Good) Party leader Meral Akşener this week in the capital Ankara before visiting Gül, who served as president of Turkey from 2007 to 2014, in Istanbul on April 25."

Re: Elections in August 2018?

Turkey’s Perfect Path to Autocracy

"Upcoming elections in Turkey will determine whether democracy in the country can rebound or will be replaced by one-man rule.

Turkey’s next presidential and legislative elections, initially scheduled for November 3, 2019, have been brought forward to June 24, 2018. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s latest electoral move illustrates his determination to secure another victory at the ballot box. It embodies a political strategy of survival, where all the instruments necessary to capture and keep absolute power are put to work.

Against the backdrop of the highly contested April 2017 constitutional referendum and the super-presidential system it ushered in, four preconditions for an election blitz have been laid in the past few weeks…

No link between the early elections and the tax cuts on alcohol and property, surely?

Re: Elections in August 2018?

One of the new Presidential candidates Muharrem İnce has said on Turkish tv haberturk and twitter feed that in his manifesto if elected ...... he will reduce compulsory Army conscription in Turkey, which is at the moment 12months, and 8 months if a graduate.

He will reduce it to 2 months for all, with the choice of staying on in the army but actually getting a wage if wanted, with it eventually transitioning into a Professional salaried army

I could imagine it could be a vote getter for young guys if allowed to vote and for parents worrying about family members going to the SE and Syria.

If they get to hear about it, as the opposition get very little airplay and the Press belongs to the present party in power.
