Turkish efficiency

Things are all tied together nicely now in Turkey. It is very hard to 'get away' with things. This weed we had to get our van MOT done. (As it is officially a 'kamiyonet' it is due annually).
No problem logging in to the TUV website and making an appointment. (I also printed this out as it showed 'no debts on the plate). We set off with plenty of time. were stopped by a Jandarma traffic police at at checkpoint. They asked for my licence and went off to input the van details into their tablet. On the rturn to the car the officer asked if I spoke Turkish-yes. He then told me that the MOT was due that day. i showed him the printout, which showed an appointment in 30 mins. 'Have a good day'.
At the TUV centre we got a number/registered, had the exhaust test done and were finished in 20 minutes flat. Absolutely amazingly efficient.

Re: Turkish efficiency

On a general point of Turkish efficiency and indeed outstanding creativity I am still gobsmacked at the utterly outstanding indeed breathtaking job Fethiye council have recently completed with the transformation of their waterfront into a park walkway cycling entertainment area of many miles

Having known this area when it was scrublands to now see the facilities they have created is simply amazing and way ahead of what most European cities would create

Simply breathtaking and a credit to Fethiye and Turkey

You sometimes have to wonder where the council tax funds are spent in UK. Much higher taxes for so few services.

You are 101% on the money

How Fethiye council used their limited resources for such a massive and impressive project is a lesson to authorities everywhere

Re: Turkish efficiency

About 4 years ago our Belediye 'fell', the population is steadily decreasing (as the young migrate to the cities and have their kids there) so the Village lost it's coveted 'Belediye' status, and, of course the funding. I asked where we no had to pay our rates. i was tole the 'Özel idare' in the nearest town. Off we went, and eventually found the building (it is like a small town inside the gates). I had taken my subscription number for the old system in our Belediye. only to be told that it was illegal for them to take money in the 5 years after a Belediye has fallen. I can't imagine this in the UK at all. In all this time out services are not affected, the Özel idare have emptied the bins each week, we have had to pay the water bills to the local Mukhtar though.

Re: Turkish efficiency

I, unfortunately, have to have 3 monthly check-ups at an Izmir devlet hospital. I go in the morning and give blood and urine samples then return in the afternoon to see the doctor, who has the results of the tests. Once, at a different hospital I needed a MRI scan. I went, on a Tuesday, to the secretary to book an appointment and nearly fell through the floor when she said, "Is Thursday at 12 o'clock OK?" Had the results the same day and the professional interpretation of the scan the following Tuesday.
If I need to renew a prescription I pop round to the local clinic, where I think the longest I've waited is 10 minutes.
Hard to beat.

Re: Turkish efficiency

In Alanya the new Mayor has bought much of the local areas into the 21st century. New roads to villages that have struggled for years. New paving areas closer and in the areas near to the sea areas. He has been doing this for a few years and assumably been spending money wisely. He is very liked and we can see why. What a difference he has made. I have never in my life seen so many wonderful changes to such a large area as has been done in and around Alanya. He has definitely made a lot of people happy.
Shame our lot in England don't spend wisely.
Hospital appointments cancelled.... difficult to get a doctor appointment. Bins overflowing ...potholes everywhere. ..Street lights off at night leaving latell workers at risk. I won't go on because you all know what a shambles we are in.
