Re: Citizenship in Turkey
Sue don't let them grind you down, I'm sure you are right about being in front of women, I remember a Turkish woman's quite funny remark when we were talking to an English bloke who mentioned his girlfriend was Turkish "oh good it's usually the other way round". She wasn't being horrible or anything just making a comment and was pleased. You were perhaps an unluckycat that day, maybe it's time to lick you paws and fight another day?

Yes i have now licked my paws !!! had a sulk -- had a wet week in UK and have come back fighting fit !! -- I wont let these b------s get me down - i deserve citizinship - have been here for 11 years and have been a " good girl " !!
Next week we are off to Mugla to take all my paperwork ( without the certificate of speaking ) and hope that they will send for me to have the test there
I speak to alot of folks who went to Mugla and their test was quite easy and only in the rrom for 5 mins --- fingers crossed for me !
Cheers - will keep you posted

Re: Citizenship in Turkey
Well today was the day that we headed off to Mugla - I had an airport drop off at 4 pm so decided that we would go straight on to Mugla
All went well - stopped off at a nice cafe for breakfast then arrived in Mugla at 6 am !
Parked the car in a nice shady road and settled down for a 3 hour " kip "
I was abit apprehensive about submitting my paperwork without the certificate for Turkish speaking but the 4 people in the Nufus office were very nice ( makes a change as I usually get the "horrid " ones )-
I had my 3 identical folders as requested with all my birth certificate and various other papers that had been noterised in Bodrum and translated.
All that i had done wrong was i had filled out the form in English !!! - silly old me - so had to re do this in Turkish- they then asked for my residency permit and passport-
also my Turkish driving licence
After fiddling around on his computer for about 20 mins he then gave these back to me and said that they didnt want any more documents yet as they would have to check the various authorities as to how long i have spent in UK over the past 5 years !!
You cannot have citizinship if you have spent more then 6 months out of Turkey each visit - which i have not - this was perfectly clear on my passport with the visas etc.
so i have no worries on this score
so it ended up with me bringing my 3 folders back home and awaiting a phone call to go back again when the checks have been done !!
So today seemed abit of a wasted journey as this could have been done when i first went to Mugla in May for the application forms ! Why do these people seem to mess us around ?
Any way - i feel a little better now as we do seem to be getting somewhere - even though the chap said it is difficult to obtain citizinship in your own right- lets just wait and see and i will keep you posted as to the next step

Re: Citizenship in Turkey
So, do you not need the language 'pass'? And what did you mean by obtaining it 'in you own right'?

Re: Citizenship in Turkey
I applied for citizenship nearly 3 weeks ago and the people in Muğla were really nice and helpful. I took 3 files with all my documents in, I had been to Muğla the week before with everything but on my husbands nufus card my Mums and Dads names are mixed up so they needed something with my parents names on - birth certificate. They didn't want all 3 files in the end and sent me home with 2 files! I asked about the Turkish test and they said it isn't a Turkish test but an interview which I should be able to do in Turkish. They told me that I would find it very easy though - I'd spoken Turkish to them a bit in the office. Then about 2 weeks later the Jandarma called my husband and asked if I am involved in any organised crimes? We are expecting a visit from them any time soon.... In the office they told me I would have my interview within 2 months and the whole process will take about 9 months! Even though they say you need to have a minimum of 6 months on your residents visa - my visa will run out at the beginning of June.....wonder if I will get my citizenship before then?

Re: Citizenship in Turkey
I got my citizenship despite a disastrous language test and one of the things I was pleased about was I could get on with having our tapu in both our names without any military clearance messing about. Unfortunately when we went to the notar to do a Power of Attorney as I would be away when the tapu was issued I had to pass another mini language test. I was stressed out again LOL. She wasn't very impressed but things brightened up when I read the document she gave me in Turkish obviously pronouncing it well so she passed me even though I hadn't a clue what the document meant. I think I need to bite the bullet and have lessons because I seem to have been stuck like this for 3 years without getting any better - what is wrong with me?

Hi Kate
Sorry if I've read this wrong, but is your parent's names on your husband's Nufus Card (Kimlik)?
