I did`nt go into details as I was answering previous posts.
Duration 1 year same as earlier posts I paid £70 at London for a 1 year visa
and of course I paid here at the time 1800 lira for 5 years.

It does work out cheaper for 5 years as it goes up every year and we are on our 4th year now and as for they might be changing...... yep thats been going around for 2 years now and its costing people more......I wonder who started that ???

Most people I know have not been offered 5 years straight away max of 3 years 1 st time and most people are happy with 1 year at a time so its not worth paying in London keep you money unless you really want a 5 year straight away.

When we came over to live here we both paid the £75 for the residence visa in London. When we applied for our residence permits, within the one month as stipulated, my husband got a 4 year permit and I only got a 1 year permit. The reason? The length of validity of our UK passports.

Now I think we are getting somewhere. I now understand Kusann post in that she purchased the Visa in London for £75.00 came to Turkey and purchased the residence permit for a period of 5 years, at the going price for that period.

Sapper this could be where you were not offered the 5 year period, as Harem has just said the permit you get depends on what is left on your UK passport. So could this be the reason you were not offered. I would imagine that if the Turkish authorities saw that you could obtain a 5 year permit they would have offered it.

It is dependant on your budget whether or not you buy the annual or 5 year permit because they do increase in price each year, so do you pay this increase annually or 5 yearly.

But the bottom line is as Harem and I are trying to say is you do not need to get the £75.00 visa, just pay the £10.00 visa on entry to Turkey go to the Police station and apply for the Residence permit. At the end of the day it is a matter of choice where you start the process.

Firstly I have 8 years remaining on my passport and did ask about other periods but was told 1 year only. Wife has 7 years ro run on hers.

Who am I to argue with them as we had been given the run around by the Jandama and had to chase them do the home visit and then chase them to send the report to the Deniz Police in Bodrum. From start to finish was nearly 10 weeks to get permits.

But all is clear now - no need to get visa in UK if going for resident permit.

But what I did take offence with is Harem's comment that "People are deliberately mis-interpreting"

Would just like to add we got 5 year res.visa and only had 2 year(aprox) left on our passport they put a note in the back of our res.permit book saying valid to 05.07.2009, in the book where it says.......this residence permit is valid until...it says 21.07.2006 as this was when our passports ran out .As long as we renewed our passport and kept a copy with res.permit no problems.
We renewed passport in Izmir 2006.We have not had any problems when we have been checked.
Maybe things have changed now it seems everyone had a different story to tell......well it is Turkey

Dont understand about running around we just went to Police station and then to tax office to pay money then back to police station and a week later someone pick up our permits for us......no visits by anyone.
Do different areas so different things?

Thanks for the info about the time line on the passports. I am OK not due to renew passport until 2014 but handy to know they will let you have 5 year permit when passport has less time. Then again it may depend on the mood of the official at the time.

First of all, Sapper, my apologies. I must have just been in a grumpy mood when I wrote that. You know 'grumpy old women' and all that. However, now I don't understand something - why did you have a home visit from the jandarma?

No problems we all have off days.

Because my wifes passport is in her maiden name they wanted to visit the villa to see if we are married. Don't know how are home visit would achieve that but had to play the game.

Also had to special letter signed by district office saying I would support my wife for some reason. Must have went to Deniz Police 8 times - district officer 4

Hi folks, I posted this one on the (goods imported) section, maybe you can help.
We arrive in May with our two children and are using Pickfords to bring a container over but we need a Tapu, rental agreement and a residency visa! Do you think we could get the visa with in five weeks so we can show it to customs so they can release our container. Our problem is that we wont have a Tapu or a rental agreement to show them.
