Re: no more repeat 3 month visas?

Andrew, I was thinking a tourist could only stay up to one month at a time, instead of the normal three months.
Sorry.
Mel.

Is it possible to buy a 1 year permit when you arrive and where would you get it. We are hoping to go out for 3 months soon come back for around 8 weeks and then go back again - again for about 3 months. Would getting a years permit be the most cost effective thing to do?

Its only a rumour just now.

But when (if) it does change it'll be the usual that it happens overnight with little or no notice. A one year Residence permit will set you back just under 600YTL, so stick with Tourist visas while you can.

janeth, if you are planning on leaving the country (ie coming back to the UK) after 3 mths (90 days max) then you would be better of using the tourist visa at £10 a shot ... as long as you dont stay over 90days this is your cheapest option

next year we had planned on a going out there for a couple of weeks at easter and then i am thinking of maybe going out for 6 weeks in the summer .it would seem really unfair and not to say expensive if i had to buy a residents visa ! we haven't bought our holiday home to live in yet ,i must admit i don't like the way the turkish government seem to make it very difficult and very expensive for any foreigner to do just about anything ,and do sometimes wonder if we havn't made a mistake in buying out there .however, that said i just look at my photos and just know it is right and hopefully one day we will leave these cold english shores !

I think there is truth in what you say and this news is possibly more of a blow to people who come over for extended visits than it is for people who reside here. However, this has been rumoured for a long time and perhaps it is just a re-hashing of old ground.

if you are only going out for that amount of time, you will not need to buy a residence visa.

the no repeat 3 mth visa i am guessing is being targeted at people who actually live in turkey & go over to one of the greek islands for a day to obtain the visa.

you are not living there, you are going over for a few weeks at a time on holiday.

you will be fine using the 90 day tourist visa

This has been rumoured for quite a while now
I think it will hit the people who have holiday homes here more then the residents
although i do know alot of residents who live in Bodrum area ( and have done so for many years ) who just go over to Kos - and NEVER get questioned !
My opinion is that you you live in Turkey permantly than you should hold a residence visa - the price is 2.400. 00 ytl for 5 years and is well worth it
Those we own their own houses only have to take in consideration the cancel tax payments that they are saving by living in Turkey -- more than covers the price of a permit!!
Lets be fair - they DO choose to live in Turkey - its not compulsory !!

I live in Turkey permanently, and use a 90 Tourist Visa because the Residence Permit IS expensive.

I HAD a Residence Permit previously but couldn't afford to invest in another one after the cost increased substantially.

We're looking at moving out of Turkey next year because of the huge increases in the cost of living. They now far outweigh the advantages of previous years.
