Re: no more repeat 3 month visas?

My little tease about the glossy brochure obviously went over some people's heads, but I do have a sense of humour .

I have no objection to paying the residency fee and I hold a 5 year residency permit. It is the casual attitude to money by British people that annoys me. In the UK they would be complaining about the cost but in Turkey it is "nothing".

I realise it is for living here but I still don't know what it is actually for and recently I have been rather upset at a pensioner friend of mine who lost his residency and now has to pay the whole thing in full again. I do not believe that there is no record of his residency held and personally I think it is scandalous that he has to pay in full again. So perhaps that is my reason for pondering what it is all about.

Re: no more repeat 3 month visas?

For anyone born in Northern Ireland this shouldn't be a problem, given that they can hold both UK and Irish passports, so use one on the way in take a couple of days on a Greek Isle as it runs out, use the other one to get back in.

By the way, before i get a sh**load of feedback, I do support taking residency, it's just the cost involved that irks me. The way I view it if you're going to Turkey to spend retirement then there shouldn't be a major cost involved. IMHO - It's very different if you're going there to work, then since you're earning pay your dues, but the cost of residiency should be related to the average income of the country, not soem arbitrary number that some guy in an office sets.

I hold a residency for this country but i also pay my council taxes in UK - for a 1 bedroomed flat that i reside in for 4 months a year !! - not cheap
Why should these people who think it is the " norm " just hop over to Kos for a new visa get away with it ?
Surely the imigration should control this a little more stricter
Live in this country - pay the dues !!

I think that living in Turkey you should not eat pork, but some do.
Totally irrelevant but it's to make a point, that there are lots of things we shouldn’t do but we still do it.

Dont agree with you Raysalaff..... we effectively live here all year round but make a lot trips back to UK to see family and holding Residency would be another expense that we dont need at this moment in time. We pay our dues as you call them here in other ways contributing to the local economy via the shops, bars and restaurants, paying our utility and council tax bills promptly, we dont ask the turkish government for any handouts and funnily enough they dont offer (lol). So until they make it compulsory we will continue to go back and forward on a 3 month visa.

I fully agree with you there Perecles, holding a residency permit is just another form of tax, what benefits are there for having one?
