Hi from North Wales
We plan to visit Turkey ( Altinkum ) again in September , my third visit this year , only this time we are bringing an American couple ( who live in the States ) with us . It may sound stupid , but I've assumed that they , like us , will just have to pay their entry visa ( $20 each ) , with no other complications . Can anyone confirm this ?

Correct, at point of entry to Turkey they simply purchase thier visa

Hi Nanoo.A vague recollection tells me that Americans and Canadians pay more than Brits do.If the old grey cells are correct then I think they will have to pay 45 USD each. I may be wrong.

Rik, I did a bit of checking on this for our American visitors, and they seem to have reduced the visa charge to $20.

Nanoo, I shall let you know at the end of June whether our Americans encountered any problems. They want to take a boat trip to Samos but were told by a friend that he encountered visa/passport problems on re-entering Turkey, although that was years ago so things have probably changed on that front, also.

my father is American & travels too & from Turkey with no problems whatsoever.
he pays $20 on entry (once even paid £10)

a few years back, the visa was a lot higher ($100) but it was dropped to just $20

Our Americans will want to drive a rental car. Does your father use his US driving licence in Turkey, or does he need an international licence?

cant see why he should need a international lic if we dont . also when we went 4 weeks ago i noticed the visa sign said somethinh like £30 visa charge for canadians [ i pointed it out to my wife ] did not notice if higher charge for usa.

American citizens traveling to Turkey on U.S. passports must obtain a visa. Currently, holders of all types of passports can purchase a 90-day sticker visa at the port of entry for $20 cash if they are traveling to Turkey as tourists. For further information, travelers in the U.S. may contact the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey at 2525 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C. 20008, telephone: (202) 612-6700, or the Turkish consulates general in Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, or New York.

The Turkish Tourism Website gives the following information about visas for US Citizens. According to this there are two types of visa: a single entry visa lasting 3 months, and a multiple entry visa lasing a year:

USA - CITIZENS ONLY
A visa is required for all U.S. citizens entering Turkey. U.S. citizens may obtain their visas upon entry point in Turkey or in advance from one of the Turkish Consulates around the U.S. Please see the Jurisdiction list of the Turkish Consulates for your state. Application for a business visa must be done ahead of time, before entering Turkey.

The tourist visa is valid for a year starting from the issue date. There are two different visa types. With a single entry visa, you can enter Turkey only once and stay up to three months. Multiple entry visa, on the other hand allows you to enter and exit the country more than once within one year period specified on your passport and you can stay in Turkey for three months each time.

Visas given at entry points are valid only for three months. Therefore, visas must be obtained in advance for visits lasting longer stays and for study, research or employment purposes.
