Residence permits and visas?
Can anybody tell me the difference between a residence visa and a residence permit? Which do you need to live in Turkey?

Re: Residence permits and visas?
Also the residents visa is the biggest scam the consulate have going. There is just no point getting one as you can just apply for a permit straight away without having the residence visa. If you work out how much it costs for a visa and add on travelling expenses it soon adds up and you will just have to register again upon arrival to get your permit.

We are planning on moving to Turkey this year and are a little confused about the Residency Visa and Permit.
So there is no benefit at all having a Residency Visa issued in London?
So you say we can apply for a Permit straightaway when we get to Turkey, do you know how easy this is?, Is there any criteria? and do you know the cost of a 1 year Permit for a British Citizen?
Hope anyone can help us.

Re: Residence permits and visas?
To apply for a residence permit you go to the nearest police station to register with all your birth certificate, passport and photos, you can have a 2 year or 5 year as it was when i got mine last year and cost about 870TL which is about £340.
The embassy web site gives you details HERE
you will also have to show you have enough money here to keep you here for the duration of your application, well i did any way, not sure if this is a strict issue.

Re: Residence permits and visas?
it all depends on if you are married to a Turk, working or tourist. These are the three categories. Being married to a Turk or here on a work visa then you just pay the fee and no need to show proof of funds.
If you are under the tourist categorie then you need to show 300 USD per month of application, in a Turkish bank account. Rules change slightly from province to province.
You can get permits from 15 days upto 5 years.
One year permit is around 460 lira plus 70 lira for the blue book.

Re: Residence permits and visas?
Two years ago my wife and I applied for Residence Visas. She was granted a 5 year visa and I was given a 3 year visa simply because that was the length of time left on our respective passports. At that time the visas were reasonable can't remember exactly but the cost for the two of us was about 700,000,000 old lira. Unfortunately about a year laterI mislaid mine and had to apply for a new one the cost had gone up tremendously I paid as much for my new 2 year one as I had originally paid for both. However the procedure was very easy, we went to the police at Aydin filled in a simple form then were directed to the tax office(the other end of Aydin of course) paid the money then back to the Police station with the receipt and 20 minutes later we were issued with our Residence Visas. It was a very simple in fact the easiest official document I have had. Of course as soon as I returned home with my new visa I found the old one so it was money down the drain

Re: Residence permits and visas?
Sandra, Thats just terrible advice!
like I said, if you apply to the consulate in London you get charged £80 for the visa, take into account travel expenses etc and this would be the amount of money you will be throwing away to the wind. You DO NOT need a visa in order to get the permit.
Also as mentioned before, procedures change from province to province. We get residence permits process in 3 working days and it is up to you (with the paperwork you have) how long you can have a residence for wether it be 3 months or 5 years.
Also if you apply DIRECTLY to the emniyet muduru (yabanci subesi) in the capital city of your province, you can get your residence much quicker then the 4 weeks.
Cicero, its a permit not a visa.

Re: Residence permits and visas?
Sorry you are correct it's a permit but it still only took one visit and a couple of hours to obtain and that includes a lunch
