News on Residence Permit Fees....

Good News....

With the cost of a 5 year residency permit now costing 1820 lira and a 2 year costing 740 lira, the British Embassy have now written to the Turkish authorities asking for a review, with a view to drastically reducing these fees.

The old legislation calculates the cost of a permit on a monthly basis, 50 lira for the first month and 30 lira for each subsequent month. For each permit, a 65 lira booklet fee is also payable.

I'm glad they're looking at reducing the fees, I just wish they'd done it before I paid for mine.
By the way, I paid 850 ytl, plus 65 booklet fee.

I thought that the Brits had been bitching about the fees for years and and gotten nowhere. Is this time any different? It sure is expensive. However, just last year the Brits put up fees, yet again, for Visas and permits by a large percentage...

Maybe it's a case of "what's sauce for the goose..."

I think you may be right,Gezmek.
For example ,a German friend didn't have to pay for a visa at the airport but a friend with a Canadian passport had to pay something like 45 Can dollars equivalent.
It may be a reciprocal agreement

I don't think they have been "bitching for years" as I think the massive rise only took place in the last year or two. When I joined the CB forum I recall people complaining about the big rise.

Merv,
That's an increase of about 33% per year - some rate of inflation

I heard yesterday that a 5 year residence permit has gone up to 1200 pounds.
Can anyone confirm or deny that ?

Perhaps it is a way of saying we want tourists and holiday home owners but not residents?
