Work permit/residency visa
Hi,
I am sorry if this has been covered before and if so, please direct me to correct posting. I am just at the point of deciding whether to stay here in Bodrum and work for 12 months. My employers will apply for my work permit, but my question is, do you have to have a residency visa before a work permit can be applied for? I have had conflicting advice.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Sandra

Re: Work permit/residency visa
Sorry for being "Mr Picky", it's a Residence PERMIT. A visa is required to enter the country and a permit is required to stay.

Re: Work permit/residency visa
the answer is yes and a 5 year one will be better.and dont meen to disbeleive your employer but make sure they do apply for the work permit you want to see it and you need it before you start work not after as they are getting really keen on this.but other than this good luck i came to work in turkey for 12months and i have been here over 8 years once you start you will never want to leave good luck and go for it it will be the best move you ever make

Re: Work permit/residency visa
You can get your employer to apply for a resident permit at the same time as your work permit. It is the simplest and easy method, whether you need to contribute towards costs i do not know..
PS, your employers should asked you twenty questions about your parents, request certs of your qualifications, a translated CV, and a whole load of other stuff then you know its cosher.

Re: Work permit/residency visa
The actual cost of the Work Permit is listed on the Turkish Govt site as:
" 1-Süreli Çalışma İzin Belgesi:
a) 1 yıla kadar (1 yıl dahil) 50.000.000.- TL
b) 3 yıla kadar (3 yıl dahil) 150.000.000.- TL"
Which equates to about £20 for one year.
http://www.calisma.gov.tr/CGM/Law_Work.htm Go to bottom of the document
I have seen quotes for friends of mine which start at £800 for the Permit to be granted. The explanation being that palms have to be greased.
