Turkey Entry refusal!

Hi folks, yesterday we came back into Turkey at Izmir Airport we had been away just one week. While we were away my partners Residency Permit expired, now we knew this and so got a Tourist Visa before going to the Passport desk. The officer at the desk wanted to know why the RP hadn't been renewed before we departed - is this a new rule? After almost 40 minutes and several officers debating they let my partner in.

Re: Entry refusal!

I would just go to the Yabanci police station in Konak, sounds pretty straight forward, your partner seems to have played by the rules, no reason to refuse, as he had an expired RP, but picked up a new, valid visitor visa. I would think your partner just has to reapply for the RP, and all will be ok. Check with the police and they will set you on the right path. Good luck!

Re: Entry refusal!

Presumably your partner did not present the out of date RP with the passport . If so how did they pick up the info - from the passport scan ?

All the info is on computer, so easy for them to track RPs etc.

Re: Entry refusal!

They probably were wondering what was going on as she had a residency permit and then suddenly this had changed to a tourist visa. The residency permit is a serious document and they were no doubt intrigued to know what you were up to and why you hadn't renewed it in good time.

Yes I know but interested how they picked up on it:

- by just scanning
- by looking up
-by looking through the passport and noticing entry/exit stamps without tourist visa stamp
- or by being presented with an out of date RP plus passport

The response could inform the advice people are given who arrive in similar circumstances

Re: Entry refusal!

If the permit expired while you were out of Turkey & that was only for one week, there would not have been enough time to have applied anyway,as you can only apply for a renewal 15 day prior to 15 day after expiry date & most applications can take 3/4 weeks at present, well here in Bodrum anyway. Also you cannot leave Turkey while your renewal is going through the process.
So what you did was not illegal at all,i take folks for a renewal when their RP had run out years ago & had been running on passport visas for ages.
