held a resident visa more than 5 years

Hi

I have held a resident visa ( blue book) for more than 5 years, unbroken.
I did hear that after this time, there are different rules that apply when you renew again, and maybe some concessions.
Is this correct, and if so, does anybody know what they are?

Thanks

Applicants applying for an 8 year Residency Permit (Application can be made in Turkey)
As of the 1st of April 2014, those who have resided in Turkey with a residence permit uninterruptedly for at least eight years will be granted a permanent residence permit.

Interruption to the residency
If you stay outside of Turkey for a period of more than 6 months within 1 year or more within the last 5 years. This will be classed as 'interruptions' and will not be counted towards your 8-year residency permit.
Also any residency previously acquired before the interruptions will not be counted.

Conditions for an 8 year residence permit

• You must have resided in Turkey (with a residence permit) uninterruptedly for at least eight years.
• You must not have benefited from any kind of social assistance from the State for the past three years.
• You must possess sufficient and regular resources to maintain himself/herself.
• You must have valid medical insurance.
• You must not constitute a threat to public order or security.

Successful applicants who are granted a long term residence permit shall benefit from the same rights as a Turkish citizen with the exception of provisions in special legislation as well as the rights regarding:

Meaning you will be Exempt from:-
a) Compulsory military service

b) The right to elect and be elected,
c) Employment in public institutions,
d) Exemption from taxes in importing vehicles

Please note: Your long term residency permit may be cancelled if you stay outside of Turkey uninterruptedly for more than 12 months with the exception of 1) health 2) study.

What to do until the 1st of April 2014

Renewing or applying for your Turkish Residence Permit before April 2014

All foreigners can submit Residence Permit applications to their local police stations. (Foreigner police departments) and follow current procedures.

For more information please see how do I apply for a Residence permit in Turkey

Thanks for the info. Most helpful.
Seems it was right about the concessions, just need to be here a bit longer.

Cheers

Re: held a resident visa more than 5 years

Except for not having to apply for a renewal anymore,i can't see any other advantages, unless the post shown [ from Yell Ali ] has printed it wrong.

Meaning you will be Exempt from:-
a) Compulsory military service,.... we don't do M.S. now,....so no change.

b) The right to elect and be elected,....we can't vote or get elected now.....no change.
c) Employment in public institutions,....we can't work in these jobs now....so no change
d) Exemption from taxes in importing vehicles
.... a 'double exemption' here, so still taxed. ie,we will be exempt from exemption..!!

Re: held a resident visa more than 5 years

Does this 8 year term include the first 3 month visa received at the airport on arrival or not?
When it says 'public' for employed does that actually mean all places...or is there anything other than 'public'....ie 'private'in which you can work??...just curious!!

.....good point "Does this 8 year term include the first 3 month visa received at the airport on arrival or not?" and the 90 day visa runs..as I have only left Turkey once in 9 years (a four day Greek Island cruise)

Now if you had read the whole section it would have made more sense,
