1st residency how long is it taking ?

HI all will be applying for 1st residency when we arrive 30th March, we are living in the koycegiz area. Does any one know the approx time it is presently taking to come through. We are over for 6 weeks on this visit and wanted to apply before the rules change. We have a list of requirements etc but wondered if tapu bank account etc is in the husbands name does his wife also need to get tax no and bank account and proof of income, or can it be done jointly as a couple ?
Regards Brenda

Re: 1st residency how long is it taking ?

Hi Brenda,

I am also travelling to Koycegiz on the 3oth, March and also need to find out about RP. I am only there for 2 weeks, but was told before that if all the documents are there then it should not take long.

Send me your phone number as I may contact you when I am there.

Re: 1st residency how long is it taking ?

A lot depends on your local office, presume yours comes from Mugla . If so we just copied the same bank statements including the Turkish account demonstrating sufficient income for the two of us. We both got tax numbers. Don't forget your pink folder. Technically you are not supposed to leave Turkey until you receive your RP, the reason is I believe that you may get a visit from the Jandarma to verify your address details etc. We did but a friend went back before and there did not seem to be any repercussions when she returned a couple of months later.

Re: 1st residency how long is it taking ?

Chinook, thanks, bit puzzled by pink folder ? Have plastic black ones, do they specify pink cardboard ? Also my concern is your passport is taken for the duration, so you cannot leave Turkey until residency complete, how did you friend leave ? This is our concern that ours won't be complete in 6 weeks for our return flight.
Thanks
Brenda

Slightly OT but.

I have in the past read where people waiting for their documents have needed to leave the country and have simply gone and got note from the RP issuing office which is placed into the passport, possibly to explain on their return why they did not collect their RP paperwork etc when it was originally available.

So yes, there are provisions available for people to leave before the process id complete, but TBH I doubt if it would be acceptable to leave for months before returning.

Brendab. The pink folder is where your application/papers are filed by the government officials and bizarrely you are required to provide these with your application, well you are in Ula/Mugla; go into any stationers and they will know what you mean and want. Our friend had her passport returned and had no problems picking up her RP when she returned. I would not bank on it though and be prepared to do what Old Fogy recommends.

Re: 1st residency how long is it taking ?

İt varies from area to area in Alanya Husband and wife if both yabanci need to apply seperately obviously if you have a joint bank account it must have enough for both of you. Passport here you provide a copy and they hand the original back to you. Talk to the local boys İ find they are usually quite helpful and when İ needed a quick result they were very happy to help.

Re: 1st residency how long is it taking ?

Brendab about 3/4 weeks after you get your RP you can obtain your identity number (YTC). You can either go to the NUFUS office or do it online:
