A visa/RP question for a newcomer

İ have lived in Turkey for many years so this isnt for me!!!..İ have a friend and she is thinking of coming for a year on a sabatical and İ am wondering how to advise her.

She went to the embassy in london and it advised her she needs to prove 14k gbp of income for one year.....firstly, i know she can come in as a tourist and get a 90 day 10 quid(??) temporary visa....but after that i don't know how to advise her?...People used to hop over to Greece and return with a new stamp but İ know recently things have changed....what is the best way to do it??

İ have been here so long and always married to a Turk that known of these income matters have ever affected me!!..i am up for my permanment RP in September!!!..it has been so long!..cheers

Re: A visa/RP question for a newcomer

Hiya,
I think the 14k is actually in TL. I did my latest residency a couple of months ago and it worked out that I needed to show 7,000 Dollars.
I would suggest the friend comes here on a Turkish visa but goes for a 12 month residency during that period which would then allow a total of 15 months in Turkey (the 90 days tourist allowance plus 12 month residency.

Re: A visa/RP question for a newcomer

...but is there still an option to go in and out of Turkey on days trips to Greece or has that changed??..thanks for the advice so far!

She only wants to stay here 12 months because her sabatical from work is fixed...so the intial tourist visa will be 90 days than 9 months residency permit.....so would it be even less than 7000 dollars for the reduced time?

Re: A visa/RP question for a newcomer

Just a reminder that the new residency laws are supposed to come into force soon and they state that a first time RP should be applied for in your home country. There are others on here who have more detailed knowledge than I do, they will be better placed to advise.

The tourist visa is 90 days in 180 days so after 90 days, in theory I believe, you have to be out of the country for 90 days. Don't think the Greece run is viable anymore, but as I said others know more.

Re: A visa/RP question for a newcomer

Resideny permit is the best option . Currently the new rules are on hold so can still apply within 30 days of arrival, however when new law eventually comes in application will have to be in advance at embassy in country of origin. detail varies from place to place but this link may help
Living Abroad - Visas / Permits / Passports - YellAli

As I said ignore the reference to change in April.

Be careful about assuming that you get 15 months. When we applied for RPs they were back-dated to the start of our tourist visa entry. Nice little earner for the Turish government.
