Renewing Residency Permit

Just to let those who are interested know I successfully renewed my residency permit in Didim today. As I was renewing for just the second time i.e. after having permit for just one year I was restricted to 3 years and not 5 years as I requested. The guy who was in the office said 5 years next time (perhaps not aware of the proposed changes?). The cost was $200 which at todays' exchange rate worked out to 438TL. A surprise was told to return in two weeks not one as before. Also beware that any photos you take with you should not be English passport size as I took! (he said not suitable). I consequently found a place between Halk and Finansbank (Fujifilm) who courteously and promptly did 8 for 10TL the correct size.

All in all a fairly painless experience. Hope some find it useful

Thanks for the update. We will be off to Didim for our renewal in May, so good to know it is all pretty much the same procedure as last time. Sue xx

Re: Renewing Residency Permit

We did ours today in Milas it looks like 3 years is what they are offering as we asked for 5 but the guy was never going to give more than 3.
No real problems just had to get bank statements with today's date on stamped and signed but that wasn't to much hassle.
The usual happened and we had to go away and come back after lunch, We started the proces just after 0930 but with having to pay at one office and get our photostat Tapu stamped in a completely different part of Milas it all took time.
All done now and in 3 years we may have to go through the whole thing again, Who knows!

Re: Renewing Residency Permit

Has anyone renewed their residency permit in the last week or so? I am reading that SGK health insurance or equivelent is now compulsory.

Hi
Are you saying that health insurance is needed for short term residency (1 year) whether it be SGK or private insurance from the Uk? Is this official?

The photos I had taken locally in a photo studio shop were in fact 6x4.5cm, strangely bigger than my English passport size photos but the difference being the former showed both head and shoulders and not just my head as in the English ones. I couldn't see what all the fuss about 'size' was all about as whilst I was waiting to collect my permit I saw them cut photos to an even smaller size than the ones I originally presented! I chose not to point this out though....

Surely you mean that it is compulsory, Redders? SGK health insurance or equivalent, that is.

Re: Renewing Residency Permit

Sorry,i misread that post earlier,so i deleted mine to save any confusion.
Kibris, Dod's original post was before the rule changes,so now it's best to confirm with the Polis where you are applying as they all seem to be asking for different sizes. Some will accept Turkish kimlik size, others want UK passport size & i believe Fethiye insist on biometric photos.
