Visa extension ?

Hi, just wondering if anyone can provide any advise regarding the following.
1) I arrived in Turkey on February 19th, ( 90 day visa) and intended viewing properties with the intention of finding a suitable property to purchase.
2 ) in the interim I am staying in a property which I have leased and have until now been of the understanding that I could apply for a residence permit, prior to my current visa expiring, without the need to exit Turkey, but given all the changes which are occurring I am not sure of this is now the case and even if it is how long is an initial residency visa valid for, is it 1 year, 2 years or 5 From the information on the forum I gather it is 1 year, but I have heard that it is possible to obtain an initial residency visa valid for 3 years, But I am rather sceptical of the 3,year claim, so if any one can clarify this point I would appreciate their comments.
3 ) To complicate matters further I MAY need to exit Turkey for a week or 2 prior to my current visa expiring, but before I have had the opportunity to apply for a residency visa, if I were to exit Turkey, prior to my current visa expiring, would I encounter problems reentering Turkey a week or so later, given the 90 and 180
day rulings. I had originally planned on staying in Turkey for 6 months, based on the assumption that. I could convert my initial 90 day visa to a resident visa
4) finally, what is the cost of an initial residency visa.

Any comments/advice appreciated

Bari

Re: Visa extension ?

yes the new rules on residency Permits are on hold and the old rules apply, although i thought that you had to apply within 30 days of entering . The questions re length of first visa etc vary from office to office. you are not supposed to leave Turkey whilst your application is being processed and in some areas such as ours this is made impossible because they keep your passport whereas in others it is copied and returned . In our area the local jandarma also pays you a visit .

Your best bet is to let people know the area in which you are looking and you will get the local answer

Re: Visa extension ?

Dependant on the area you live in the rules can vary, Istanbul and Ankara you need to make an appointment and there is often a waiting list. Others areas you can usually just walk in. Always the best suggestion check with the local yabanci department as to their requirements . They are usually very helpful but would suggest you do it sooner rather than later.

Re: Visa extension ?

Hi Chinook,
Thanks for your comments. I am in Fethiye.
I was of the understanding that one could not apply for the initial residency visa until 30 days prior to scheduled departure. There appear to be so many variations, due to geographical regions etc, that I guess nothing is standardised

Re: Visa extension ?

As Beyazbayan says pop into your local yabanci ( foreigner) office and find out the local quirks , one in our area at least is that the folder that you have to provide must be pink. for generallities as to requirements this link is as good as any Living Abroad - Visas / Permits / Passports - YellAli

or this which is in your area http://www.fethiyetimes.com/expat-zo...tep-guide.html

Re: Visa extension ?

A yabanci is a foreigner at the moment it is controlled by the area police.

The price of the residence book has gone up since that article was written and is now 206 TL.
