British people that make turkish wills

Hi and good morning to all , I have been talking to a dear friend of ours regarding turkish wills , her husband died last year and she decided to go out to Altinkum this year and remove her husbands name off the tapu ,
She went to all right places and then saw a solicitor who said that the courts have found a old ruling saying that if any foreigner has a Turkish will , they are not valid just has english ones are not there in Turkey . they said the Turkish Wills are not worth the paper they're written on
He then said he will apply to the courts for her husbands name removed off tapu .
She was very upset and had spent many years going to Turkey and being 76 , she doesn't need it ,as anyone on here faced this too then i can give her some hope , thank you

Re: British people that make turkish wills

The "Old Ruling" should have a number as all laws in Turkey do, but in this case and being a cynic, I guess it may begin with the prefix TL......

Two seperate friends of mine have lost long-term partners (not married) in the last year. Both had property in Kalkan. Both put the matter into the hands of an avokat and both have received their new Tapus in their name. One of them did need sons to say they had no interest in inheriting but both got their Tapu with little problem.

It sounds a little bizarre to say the least.

Re: British people that make turkish wills

Yes stmary. I hope she doesn't either. One of the step-sons of my friend decided after he had signed the release that he would change his mind! Her take on it was that his wife or mother (ex-wife) had something to do with it. Anyway it was all too late as he had signed! However, just to make his point he has booked himself a holiday at the villa without asking my friend if it is ok.

The problems always arise when money becomes involved don't they? Good luck to your friend.
