the price of tourist visa
Just come back from Ireland where I saw my friends flight tickets to Bodrum. Couldn't believe my eyes when the documents stated that anyone travelling with an Irish passport pay 10 euros for an entry visa whereas British passport holders pay 15 euros. Why does Turkey discriminate against us Brits? It doesn't seem fair that we have to pay more than the Irish.

Re: the price of tourist visa
You will find that it is the Germans that do not pay due to common agreements I think. The system is crazy, I live in Spain and hold a residence card for Spain. When I fly I have to buy £10.00 for visa. I was informed by the Turkish Embassy it was down to the passport I held. It being British and not my home location. I even once flew via Germany and tried it, but was sent packing to get my Visa and pay the £10.00 and I had'nt even been near the UK.

Re: the price of tourist visa
I guess most Turkish people wishing to visit the UK would be happy if the equivalent of £10.00 per head guaranteed their entry into the country!

Re: the price of tourist visa
Is it difficult for the Turkish to gain entry to the uk then? Sorry to sound naive but I've never really thought about it before.
We do take a hell of a lot of things for granted don't we. We all have a good bitch about the UK but it's not all bad.

Re: the price of tourist visa
Bexxy,
We have invited a young Turkish neighbour to visit us in Ireland. To get a tourist visa he must supply a letter from a sponsor, a letter from his school saying he has enrolled for the next semester, a completed application form stating how he intends to support himself during his visit, details of his sponsor's occupation. He must send the letters, the application form, his passport and 60 euro to the Irish Consulate in Istanbul and then wait to see if the visa will be granted. Luckily Turkish Airlines have introduced direct flights from Istanbul to Dublin, otherwise he would have to apply for a transit visa for the UK or any other country where he would be required to change planes for the flight to Dublin. I wouldn't blame him if he told us to forget it and stuff our country where the sun don't shine. Come to think of it, the sun DON'T shine here anyway.
No doubt the UK has similar procedures for Turkish people who want to holiday there.
I certainly won't be complaining the next time I'm queuing to pay for my 10 euro visa at Izmir airport.
