Brendab is on a distinguished road
residency running out 4 weeks before return to uk

HI,
Apologies in advance if this has been answered elsewhere, but I have searched. A friend is returning to UK end of Sept and not returning untill next April. The problem is he doesn't want to renew his residency with the added expense of health insurance, his residency runs out the end of August, any ideas on a way forward for him ?
Regards
Brenda

He either gets an earlier flight,or accepts he may be heavily fined & risk a ban. Bans can come into effect after 15 days past an expired RP or visa.
If he should choose the latter,he will need to get to the airport hours before his flight is due to leave,as immigration can take their time sorting out the punishment.

Will he not be able to go to one of the Greek islands just before his Residency runs out, stay a couple of days and come back in on an eVisa? Quite a few people in the Fethiye area have done this whilst waiting to see what was happening with the Health Insurance.

It may be worth trying, but who really knows with the way things work in Turkey.

It's obviously worth trying to get a e-visa and hope for the best or/and plead ignorance.
(but obviously being prepared to pay the fine if needs be)

Re: residency running out 4 weeks before return to uk

It is possible to do this providing he leaves on the very last day of his RP,stays overnight & returns the next day,or later on an evisa.

Re: residency running out 4 weeks before return to uk

The fifteen days after your permit expires is not longer in force. See previous posts they are now not allowing this period of grace although it is stated in the blue book.
after Jacky posted İ went to renew and expressly asked to confirm this information and the Polis confirmed that the gace period is no longer allowed. Another new change you can now apply 60 days before your due date.

No one said that the 15 days grace still stands,i think most folk know that now,i stated that after 15 days past your expiry date you risk the chance of a ban,not just a fine.

Re: residency running out 4 weeks before return to uk

This query is kinda related to this thread and may already been answered elsewhere buuut....if you've had a residency permit and used it full time until its expiry and then leave Turkey and come back on an evisa wouldn't the 90 in 180 day countback rule take into account the days used under the now expired residency permit as well or am I missing something?

Re: residency running out 4 weeks before return to uk

Good question, but I think the difference here is going to be the difference of a 'residency permit' and a Visa, of which I would think are not exactly the same so would not exclude you on the roll-back side of things.

Re: residency running out 4 weeks before return to uk

This is the experience of a traveller leaving Dalaman just recently.

"Bit of a long story but worth telling I think.
We came to Turkey in early March and we had to go back 6th May. My residency was up 15th May so because of the, then 15 day rule I did not have time to renew it, no problem I though we are coming back again 28th May I will get an evisa and come in on that. My partners residency is up in September so I thought as we were going home 10th July and returning later on I would use the evisa and then we could both renew together in September.
Got to passport control last night and I was told I had overstayed my visa, he showed me his screen and there is a facility on there that counts the days you have been in the country on a rolling basis for the last 180 days. Mine had shown 100 days in the last 180 so they said I would be fined. I said that the first holiday in March-May had been covered by my residency and my evisa was dated as commencing about 23rd May. After some discussion and a few phone calls he asked if I had my old residency book which fortunately I did. He checked the expiry date and he removed the days before that date from my rolling total and stamped my passport and let me through.
So if you have previously had residency and now using visa make sure you have your old book with you, and also this does confirm that entry is monitored on a 180 rolling basis".
