Explanation and help please

I wonder if someone can help me out here as I am currently in dialogue with someone on Facebook and we are having a slight disagreement about the new passport validity rules.

I am aware of what is written on the website, there are two parts to it:

1. Your passport should be valid for a minimum period of 6 months from the date of entry into Turkey and have at least 3 months validity from the date you are leaving Turkey.

2. The Turkish Government has advised that from 1 January 2015, foreigners entering Turkey must carry a passport with at least 60 days validity beyond the expiry date of their visa or residence permit.

Does anybody know if the 2 points above are intended to run in tandem or does point 2. supersede point 1. on 1st January 2015?

The disagreement between us is that he says that from 1st January, it means that you have to have at least 8 months remaining on your passport each time you enter Turkey. I have a different opinion, as follows:

If point 2. supersedes point 1. from 1st January, then the validity required on your passport when you enter Turkey will vary. To explain, I gave the following example. If your visa has a start date of 1st January and you fly to Turkey on that date, it has an expiry date of 29th June. When you add 60 days to this expiry date you come to 28th August. This means that your passport has to be valid right up until 28th August so if you fly on 1st January your passport has to be valid for another 8 months at least. If you return to Turkey on the same visa on 1st May, your visa expiry date remains the same so the 60 day extra period also remains the same at 28th August ... but your passport only has to be valid for 4 months (May, June, July and August).

If point 1. and point 2. are to run in tandem, then the validity required on your passport still varies between 8 and 6 months. Using the same dates above, you would need 8 months on your passport when you flew out on 1st January but only 6 months when you flew out on 1st May (to keep within the 6 month rule which makes to visa expiry date + 60 days invalid as that date is within the 6 months remaining required).

Are you still with me? Hope I haven't bored you all too much ... and I hope somebody can help me with this puzzle.

Have you got a link for this. I am just wondering if the passport and the visa are getting confused.

My understanding is point 1, and have never linked the 2 together assuming both are valid in their own rights.

Here is the link - https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-ad...y-requirements. You need to scroll down to the heading Passport Validity to read the statements.

The Turkish Government has advised that from 1 January 2015, foreigners entering Turkey must carry a passport with at least 60 days validity beyond the expiry date of their visa or residence permit.

The Turkish authorities have confirmed they will accept British passports extended by 12 months by British Embassies and Consulates under additional measures put in place in mid-2014.
I see where you are coming from but it doesnt make sense, I wonder if they mean 60 days from exit date. As all things Turkish its never clear cut.
