Residency permit options

can anyone please summarise for me what the options are for getting a residency/extended stay visa ( and the costs please) . I know the you cannot get one for longer than a year if you are a first time applicant BUT is it a standard 1 year or can you have say a 6 months visa?. My preference would be for a 6 months visa simply to fit into my travel insurance limitations which restricts me to a max trip length of 180 days.

On the subject of health insurance requirements, just as I was leaving Turkey in June the authorities had just changed their ruling about what was required. Has there been any further developments and if so can anyone enlighten me as to what the current stipulations are?

Re: Residency permit options

You can only get up to 1 year RP now, unless you are a spouse of a Turkish citizen in which case it's 2 years max. The long term permit is for those who have been in Turkey for 8 yrs with only minor absence. Lots more and I'm sure others will be able to add.

Re: Residency permit options

Sybil, yes you can use travel insurance for a term of less than 1 year.It must have the required cover & be valid in Turkey. To that end it must state in print that it covers Turkey. This policy must then have the relevant parts translated & noterized. The rest of your RP application is the same as for a full 1 year RP.

Full details of this subject are on a special site on Facebook, which you are welcome to join...Doc Martins Surgery for Expats.

Re: Residency permit options

If using travel insurance for permits less than 1 year does it not have to be through a company that has a business in Turkey as well eg AXA, HSBC. If you are over 65 you do need health insurance for Residency. As redders says look at Doc Martins Surgery for Expats on Facebook
