Health Insurance and Ikamet

Can someone please help me regarding the following:

1. We have to renew our Ikamets by 27th September but how soon do we apply?

2. One of us is 62 and has been told that they don't need Health Insurance!

3. Is it therefore free for the 62 year old?

4. If there is no health insurance then does this affect the Ikamet for re-entry to Turkey after a break in the UK?

We have been told so many conflicting stories that we are seriously getting worried now.
Also does anyone know if Kamal is till in his office in Alanya by the Police Station?

Thanks for any help!

Re: Health Insurance and Ikamet

You can apply to renew your RP up to 60 days before the expiry date. You don't have to show medical insurance details once you are over 65.

Depends when they renewed as the change to the insurance requirements was only implemented 2 months ago and so early renewals under the new system had to have health insurance even though over 65.

Voices newspaper has said they have heard a rumour , health insurance will not be needed after October 2014 to get residency , But I think everyone if they can afford it needs some sort of health cover

Re: Health Insurance and Ikamet

We renewed our permits in August in Manavgat, hubby is 65, 66 later this month and we were asked for health insurance, no problem as we have SGK
I am under 65

Our local insurance broker also says they have been "notified" that the requirement for health insurance cover to gain a RP is to be scrapped in the next couple of months.

Obviously frustrating for those who have paid out substantial amounts for health cover already but at the end of the day they still do have the cover.

As stmary says, although it may eventually not be a requirement for a RP (and at the moment isnt for the over 65s) I would urge anyone to think deeply about living here and not having health cover.
Accepting that its a personal choice, many people have been faced with crippling bills for operations/treatments etc and even though with substantial pots of money can find those pots emptied with one serious health issue.

Re: Health Insurance and Ikamet

I have also been informed that the health insurance will be scrapped. I was told an anoucement would be made at end of September but I filed that under "I will believe it when I see it" but as you have mentioned it there may be some truth in it.
