frequency of visa applications

Good day to one and all,

The Visa question has been covered extensively buy may I ask another question. Is there a compulsory period of time between one visa ending and another starting.

If I applied for a visa running from 1 st January to June (covering 180 days) and I stay in Turkey for the last three months of that period (April to June) the full 90 day period, can I immediately apply for another 180 visa (July to December) and return to Turkey within days or weeks and use another 3 month (90) day period?

Thank you for any advice. Edward

Re: frequency of visa applications

You can apply for another visa straight away but you are barred from entering Turkey for 90 days because of the count back system used.

Cliff, Thanks for the prompt reply. So I can stay a full 90 days on one visa but must not enter again until a further full 90 days is that correct?

Forget about the number of visas.

You are only allowed to stay for 90 days in ANY 180 day period so you are right in assuming that if you stayed for 90 days then you would have to wait 90 days before re-entry

Re: frequency of visa applications

I understand the 90 day in 180 day rule. What Im unsure about is when the 180 days start and end. I assumed that the 180 day period starts when the visa is issued and ends when it expires. If that is correct it would be possible to use your 90 days at the end of one visa and your next 90 at the start of the second visa. Am I incorrect in that assumption?

Hi Eddie, as I understand it you are incorrect. In the case you quote the border authorities wouls count back 180 days from the day you leave. If you have stayed more than 90 days within that period you are stuffed.

No I'm afraid you can't do that....because at the end of your 'second' lot of 90 days as you put it, is when they look back the last 180 days to see how many days you've been in Turkey....according to your scenario you will have been in for 180 days....90 on the first and 90 on the second visa....not allowed under current rules....

The 180 day period starts when you first enter Turkey irrespective of when the visa starts so you must use the countback system from when you intend to leave Turkey on your second or maybe 3rd visit

There's a great countback calculator here Tourist Visas for visiting Turkey
