Visa application didim

This is really a "heads up" info post for people who intend to apply for 3/6 month visas at Didim Polis Station. It will hopefully avoid the ridiculously and unnecessary lengthy process that my wife has just experienced. She originally went to the Polis Station with passport, 4 photographs, Tapu, UK issued Travel Insurance and Bank Statements. She was then told to come back next day with translation of travel insurance document. So we came back next day having done everything that was asked and were then told to go and get photocopies of relevant passport pages showing name/address + issuing office + last entry date stamp AND to come back next day. We returned the next day and were then told to go away and get confirmation from the TAPU office that we were still living at the TAPU address. We returned with the required proof and were then sent over to the tax office to pay and asked to return to the police office with copies of payment receipts. We made payment of 113 lira ($50= 6 month visa) but were then asked to go to another cashier 2 floors up where payment was requested for an additional 50 lira ( still do not know what this was for ?).
So back to the Polis Station and bingo - done and dusted at last.

The process was so bureaucratic and so long winded but this could simply be because the guy dealing with the application did not speak a word of English and when asked to speak slower (so my wife could better understand what he was saying) he just kept repeating the same words at the same speed over and oover again. To add - he was extremely disparaging, dismissive and rude but he was like this to yabancis and Turks alike. So to summarise - what is required at Didim Police Station for a residence visa application is
1. Passport
2. Copies of relevant passport pages showing main ID page and also the page evidencing most recent date of entry to Turkey
3. Proof of funds - minmum 850 lira for every month of required visa.
4. Proof of health insurance/ travel insurance for length of required visa. This proof must state that it is valid for Turkey. SO even if you have valid world wide travel insurance the Polis will not accept this as proof unless it actually states specific validity for Turkey.
5. Translation into Turkish if your health/ travel insurance is not issued in Turkey
6.Copy of TAPU
7. Document from TAPU office which gives confirmation that you are still at the address given on the TAPU This costs 6 lira which you have to go and pay at either Ziraat Bank ATM or in person at Halkbank - and then return to TAPU office to get confirmation document .
7. Once polis are satisfied that all required papers are in order then you will have to go to Tax Office to make payment. You will get receipts of payment which you will then have to go and get copies of each and return to Polis to give them the relevant copies.

Hope your experience is not as protracted as ours - and all of this delay and consequent frustration could be avoided if a list was made available at the Polis Station of what was required . In our case we were being told of additional items being required day on day.

The 50 lira is for the card you will get when your application has been processed.

Widdrington it suggests that the source of your original list of requirements was deficient as I see nothing basically different from what you eventually provided to the list that we worked from except we got proof of address from Nufus office and Muhtar for free. I agree he could have been more helpful on your first visit

Chinook - the original source was from the yabanci police office itself. They gave the initial list and then kept adding to it on a daily basis. Not for the first time has differences been exposed between areas in Turkey as regards policies, process and procedures. And it wont be the last.
