do you need health cover to get your residency

We read that you no longer need to get health cover to get your residency

I know this has been talked about many times , but when i read in voices newspaper , they were saying they thought that after October we wouldn't need to have healthcare in place when applying for residency .

Also what age does Turkish health cover costs if your 63 yrs old and what age do they let you have health care till .

Do any of you have other health insurance with other companies rather than the Turkish one and was that good enough when you replied for your residency .
How much do you pay each year for health care please .......thank you

Re: do you need health cover to get your residency

If under 65 you do need full health cover. Most private companies will not take you on if over 60, but AK Sigorta are one that will or you could apply for SGK, this covers you both for state hospital treatment, and the option to use any private hospital that accepts SGK and you just 'top up' to cover private treatment.
No one can give you quotes here as your premium will depend on you personal health status.
If you do use a private health insurance, that company must either be a Turkish company or a foreign one that has branches in Turkey, such as AXA or Groupama..etc

Re: do you need health cover to get your residency

Hi Derek, that office, above Emre opticians,is Fulya's and she is an agent for AK Sigorta. But it seems that now Groupama also have a policy tailored for us foreigners .Just be aware that most of these private insurance policies won't accept any major claims in the first year..!!. SGK, will accept claims after the first month of registration/payment but is for treatment in the Devlet hospitals, or you can go private and pay a 'top up' fee. Here on the Bodrum peninsula only Intertip in Gumbet and Acibadem near Kipa will accept SGK patients.
