Hi everyone.

I read with great interest the posting on the New Bill on Work Permits - extract from a newspaper.

I have a question regarding this.

I am married to a Turkish Citizen and have been for 1 and a half years and have lived in Turkey for over two years.

The rule before was I had to wait till we had been married for 3 years and then I could apply for Turkish citizen, allowing me to work legally.

However, if the applying for a work visa has been made simpler then I would be better doing that in the mean time.

Does abybody have any experience of this and what I would have to do and the costs involved?

Any feedback at all would be great.

I stay in Bitez, Bodrum so if there is any help I can get locally then I would love to hear about it.

Also, I did have a residency that ran out in March and I was in The Uk so I had to buy a 3 month visa when I returned to Turkey in April. So will either be extending that visa at the passport police or will go to Kos for the day.
If I could extend my existing visa for a shorter length of time that a year that would be a bit better as I dont have loads of money just now!!!

As far as I'm aware you can have for a Residence Permit in units of a month. Each month costs you one twelth of the yearly permit, plus a small admin charge.

I will extend it for a few months taking me up to my 2 years married date and then renew for one year more! Gives us time to save up for it!!!

Just have to solve the work permit mystery somehow???

will you extend the residency after that one year? just because you would be married for 3 years doesnt grant you automatic citizenship. For that, it is a very drawn out procedure with language tests and red tape galore. can take many months if not years.
as for the work permits, as of last thursday (when i last spoke to Nkara) there was no change on the horizon.

As for the citizenship I will be applying for it as soon as we have been married for 3 years as here in Bodrum the waiting time for the language test is only 6 weeks. If there is too much red tape I may apply for it in the UK.

Any information who know about any of this please let me know.

It's me Karen in Kaya....how are you? How's life treating you guys, is Hubby ok? Questions, questions! Will probably be seeing you later in the season at N's wedding in Sept?! All's well here, same as usual!

We're looking at the citizenship thing Deb at the mo as we're almost at our 3 years.....it appears to be a bit of a minefield. Thing is this '3 year wait' law only came into effect in 2003, so the applications going through at the mo are the first they've had to deal with, so it's all very confusing and you get told something different at every turn. (As usual.) Will let you know how we get on though, and hopefully by the time you guys go down that road it will be a bit easier....you never know the left hand might even know what the right hand is doing!

Anyway hope you are both keeping well, and glad you got Tia back, that must've been heartbreaking.
