Taking Turkish citizenship

I found this article very interesting. It dates from Jan 19th 2015
Caveat: it is the personal experience of a single woman (Pat Yale, ex-columnist for the Zaman) living in Nevşehir. Your own region may apply the rules differently and this may not apply to your own personal situation but it is firsthand experience and, if nothing else, a good read.

Re: Taking Turkish citizenship

If you're married to a Turkish national you can apply after 3 years of marriage, you don't have to wait 5 years. However, you would still need a 1 year residency permit (or at least 8 months remaining on a residency permit) to be able to apply.

Good point, Charlotte, there are maybe other details which apply to married people. As she writes:

"If you are married you are going to have to show your marriage certificate. If you are married to a Turk you will also have to show your Aile Cuzdanı with details of your Turkish family. Iím not married so have little more to say about this. Sorry. "

Re: Taking Turkish citizenship

Apparently there is a clause that if your 180 days is broken for 'the purposes of education' citizenship can still be granted. I wonder if my time working overseas as a teacher would be overlooked. I have also taught in Turkey for 7 years prior to this.
